Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Problems.

'Significant concern' for England after Atkinson leaves the field suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the ground on the second morning of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his hamstring after the final ball in his spell during the morning session.

The England team stated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and would spend time away from the action in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the series beginning on 4 January begins at the end of the week.

The English side has been without strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.

He was left out from the previous Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match in the playing XI.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 with the bat being one of only three English batsmen to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he returned for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Yet, towards the conclusion of the fifth over, he delivered a slower ball to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.

The English bowler returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
