The former Liverpool manager states rejoining to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell which brought Champions League success and ending the club's long wait since 1990, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the idea of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I stated I won't manage a different club within the country. Therefore in case it's my former club...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, so I could make the decision down the line, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding what circumstances must arise to bring him back to management, he revealed he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “No longing for management; I avoid standing under bad weather through long matches; No need for interviews multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad enjoying conversation, is pleasant. Success was frequent meaning regularly a very good mood in the building. I still have Van Dijk's laughter in my ear as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the adjustments that won the league last term. They've been defeated a string of losses in every contest following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the suggestion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. An outstanding player. Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact at the club. The Portugal international was killed in a car crash together with his sibling in July.
“How do you replace such an individual? It’s not about his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the squad missing him. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A profound tragedy for all the boys also. No one within the club would cite it for poor performances but it is the situation. Being in that space which he filled completely. Handling this individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
