Several days post Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica's western region with unprecedented strength, residents in devastated communities by the shoreline are continuing to hope for assistance.

Many of the roads are obstructed by wreckage and people are isolated with scarce supplies, no power or running water, and unknown restoration dates.

Growing Fatalities

Officials reported on the weekend that a minimum of 28 persons in Jamaica have lost their lives following the hurricane's impact as a powerful maximum-level cyclone with 185 mph (297km/h) sustained winds.
