Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer previously helped the Astros winning the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team reached their first World Series following 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Behind 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh, guiding the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the anticipated World Series.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, the city, our country," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "What an amazing experience."

Springer has now connected for 23 total playoff homers, placing him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of anyone else anywhere that I'd choose in that situation except for Springer with his playoff prowess," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the sole team never to appear in a World Series.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their work throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this one," he continued.

Toronto's team won the World Series on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
