A uniquely yellow-colored residential building visible behind helped us locate the video.

Our team is analyzing video footage and photographs circulated earlier today that show the scene of a reported vehicle-borne explosive explosion that authorities in Russia state fatally injured a high-ranking military officer in Moscow.

Russian authorities confirmed that Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov was inside the vehicle that detonated and that he succumbed of his wounds. An investigation is currently ongoing.

The initial step to verify the site from which the images were from was based on social media reports indicating the explosion occurred on Yasenevaya Street in the southern district of the Russian capital.

Our analysis employed panoramic mapping services on digital map platforms and the Russian search engine Yandex Maps to corroborate the unique yellow colour of a nearby residential complex seen in the video.

Identifying other buildings, streetlights and the street layout confirmed the exact location the footage were captured.

Additionally, we verified that the videos were recent and that the visuals had not undergone digital alteration.
