Trump Calls Loved Ones of Attacked Military Members to the White House
President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the presidential home.
He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Heartbreaking Shooting
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.
White House Offer
The president said he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump told reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Response
Mourners came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to assist public safety in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators desired. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her former high school, told the media. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Memorial plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The incident caused the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and halt providing visas to holders of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she aimed to meet with the family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had courage,” the governor told the gathering at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
